My story
I am currently concerned about the environment, because the pollution is getting worse. With the development of society, people live a better life, which means more pollution. For example, a large amount of plastics is produced annually and much is dumping into the ocean, which is a main reason for the decline of biological diversity. A large number of marine species is known to be harmed or killed by plastic debris. The plastic pollution is serious. It makes animals live in a terrible situation. Many animals are being threatened or dead due to the plastic pollution, while at the same time, human also pay the price. Fish live in polluted ocean. When people eat them, people also eat toxins. Some toxins are directly linked to cancers, birth defects and immune system problems. Plastic pollution is a threat to marine environment. Both human and animals are suffering it. Human are responsible for it. Therefore, it is urgent that we reduce the use of plastics.
Besides the ocean, the air is also being polluted. Cars and many factories discharge a large amount of harmful gas every day. In Beijing, the capital city of China, people have to wear masks when go outside during the winter due to the serious smog. Polluted air is really bad to people’s health. It is easy to cause respiratory disease or lung cancer.
It is urgent that we make changes before it is too late and we kill all the animals, or even our own. When I was in college in China, I was in the Student Union. We once organized an activity to call on students to protect the environment. The name of the activity was the Utilization of Waste. This was a competition that students used waste to make useful things. For example, a student made a pen case, using a plastic bottle. This activity aroused the awareness of everyone to protect the environment.
